COMMUNIQUE
The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), The Polytechnic Ibadan Chapter at its Emergency Congress held on the 7th January 2013 strongly identifies with Comrade Femi Aborisade and vehemently condemns the incessant attacks on him. Also, the seemingly uncontrollable menace of burglars in the institution’s staff quarters is heartbreaking.
Observedly, it is apparent that myriad of security problems on our campuses, most especially the main campus rested on the negligence of the Security Unit and the Management of the institution. The Union believes this could result to a decline in labour productivity, if it is not urgently and conclusively addressed.
In view of the pervading insecurity of life and property of members and the general insensitivity of the management to address the salient issue of security, ASUP hereby resolves as follows:
That an ultimatum of two weeks is given within which the remote and immediate causes of the threats are investigated, specifically the latest attacks on Com. Aborisade, failure which the Union will take all the necessary action within its constitutional power.
The Union has also set up a 7-man independent panel to investigate the persistent attacks on Comrade Femi Aborisade. The membership includes:
- Barrister Bamidele Aturu (Chairman)
- Barrister Malachy Ugwumadu
- Dr. Sola Olorunyomi (Representative of ASUU)
- Barrister Ife Adepoju (ASUP Polytechnic Ibadan)
- Barrister Olabode G. O. (ASUP Polytechnic Ibadan)
- Mr. Adebayo A. J. (ASUP Polytechnic Ibadan)
- Mrs. Bamigboye A. Y. (ASUP Polytechnic Ibadan)
We therefore call on the relevant authorities to expedite action on this ailing security situation to pave way for peace and social stability in the system.
Yours faithfully,
………………………… …………………………
Adebayo A.J. Phillips O.A.
Secretary Chairman
